Martin spent many summer seasons acting with the National Youth Theatre - performing at London’s Shaw Theatre playing Danforth in ‘The Crucible’ Quince in ‘A Midsummer night’s Dream’ and Baptista in ‘Taming of the Shrew’ – with, according to the Guardian, ‘unaccustomed weight and substance’. In the eighties he became one of the countries first video jockeys when for several years he presented his own show on the Pan European pop satellite TV channel Musicbox, filming both in the studio and on location. (In the process making quite a name for himself in Holland and Scandinavia). On the back of his TV work he played the lead role of Tony King in two series of the German produced comedy ‘Rock Power’.
After a spell with Radio Luxembourg Martin joined the presenting team on London’s Capital Gold, and could also be heard on Sky TV’s ‘Sale of the Century’ and BBC 1’s ‘Going for Gold’. He regularly voiced promos for BBC 1 & 2 and freelanced for radio Syndication Company ‘Two Ten productions’ recording interviews and compiling packages. Martin spent time at Radio Mercury’s ‘County Sound’ hosting the afternoon and breakfast show. He appeared in front of the camera again on United Artists TV presenting the nightly news magazine show.
Corporate work has included voice sessions for Safeway and various multimedia companies. He also reversioned a series of wildlife and social documentaries for Explore International, some of which were broadcast on the National Geographic Channel.
Martin has provided television and radio continuity for Channel 4, (becoming the voice of C4 schools programmes) Discovery Home & leisure (writing and voicing) Disney Channel, Sky Movies and Radio 4. He’s also freelanced with BBC World service providing continuity and newsreading, and compiling features for the BBC Science unit.
Following two years at London’s Melody FM Martin stayed on when the station became Magic and presented the drive time show for five years. He’s recently been presenting programmes for NTL Broadband TV, hosting radio shows for HSBC Live, VIP Radio, Classic Gold & Mercury FM. His voice work includes corporate reads and radio commercials which he records from his home studio. He’s also acted in comedy sketches for Virgin Mobile and recent TV commercial clients include finance company Millfield, Ikea and Visa International.
